August 5, 2012: Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash bring “Country to the Cove!”

Rotary Club of La Jolla sponsored "Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash"I hope you had your yee-hah on standby this afternoon. La Jolla hometown boy Mark Stuart brought his band Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash (what a great name…even the great man in black, Johnny himself gave it his blessing) to Ellen Browning Scripps Park for a rippin’ great show. Thanks to Rotary Club of La Jolla, today’s sponsor, today’s event added yet another notable musical afternoon to a truly excellent 29th season by La Jolla Concerts By the Sea.

Excellent musicianship was on tap as BSOJC played a fine batch of original songs penned by Stuart along with some country covers which had the dance floor spinning and toes tapping through the park. Notable amongst these was “440 Horses” from the band’s “Walk Alone” CD which was Johnny Cash’s personal favorite by the Sons.

Today’s band was:

Mark Stuart – Vocals, Acoustic Guitar
Alex Watts – Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals
Mark Thomas – Bass & Backing Vocals
Dave Berzansky – Pedal Steel Guitar
Michael Faughnan – Drums
